About Me
Hi, I'm Janelle Lorenzen — an artist and photographer living and working in Sylvania, Ohio.
My current work centers on cyanotype, one of photography's oldest printing processes. Each piece is made with the natural world itself — real botanicals, sunlight, and water — and most begin in my own garden, where I grow, press, and dry the plants that appear in my work. Every piece is a one-of-a-kind original; no two are ever alike. My hope is that the work leaves you feeling a little more connected to nature.
My cyanotype work brings together many of the art practices I've explored over the years. I earned my BFA at the Columbus College of Art & Design, and my practice has moved through fine art and portrait photography, painting, mixed media, and encaustic. All of that experience finds its way into this work — many finished pieces become paintings in their own right as I hand-paint watercolor and gouache over the developed image.
My work has been exhibited around the Toledo, Ohio area, including the Imagination Station, Artomatic 419, the Momentum festival, and the Toledo Area Artists exhibition.
